HMS Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Virginia

Pre-Primary Head Teacher- Ms. Virginia

Please share a little background about yourself:

Hello! I am Virginia De Leon, and I will be entering my second year as a teacher at HMS. I proudly serve as the mother of Nathan and Nayla. I am the eldest among my four siblings, and our connection is incredibly strong. I deeply treasure the special moments we share together, as well as the time spent with our mother.

How did you discover Montessori?

During my time working in a non-Montessori setting, I couldn't help but notice how easily children became distracted, and the overall environment lacked a sense of calm. It led me to question if there was a better way for children to learn. Engaging in a conversation with my husband, he suggested that I explore the Montessori approach. Intrigued, I delved into researching and educating myself about Montessori principles. This journey coincided with the birth of my first child, prompting me to apply Montessori concepts in raising him. Four years later, I obtained my Montessori credentials and established a complete Montessori environment at home. My two children are encouraged to express their creativity through self-directed activities, hands-on learning, and collaborative play.

What inspired you to become an educator?

Witnessing my son's remarkable growth and learning, despite my limited knowledge at the time, inspired me to embark on a journey to become an educator. I was driven by the desire to contribute to shaping the future generation, particularly during what I believe to be the most crucial phase of life.

What is your favorite area in the Montessori classroom?

Among the different areas in the Montessori classroom, my personal favorite is the Math area. I am particularly drawn to this area because it utilizes hands-on materials that offer children an engaging and enjoyable way to learn and develop a solid grasp of mathematical concepts. The Montessori approach in the Math area promotes concrete experiences and manipulative tools that enable children to explore and understand abstract mathematical principles with clarity and confidence.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

During my free time, I find great joy in engaging in gardening, decorating, and spending quality time with my family. These activities bring me immense fulfillment and allow me to express my creativity while nurturing both my surroundings and the bonds with my loved ones.
