Please share a little background about yourself:
My name is Tabatha and I am a Lead Pre-Primary 1 Teacher in the Garden Street
Lofts location. I grew up, as I like to call it, “down the shore”. I went to college at Montclair State University, where I
studied Elementary Education. Initially, I thought my passion would be to teach older
children, until I discovered Montessori.
What inspired you to becoming a teacher?
As a young child, I remember heading into my aunt’s second grade classroom to help her set up for the year ahead. I always imagined doing that myself. I would say that experience sparked my interest in educating young minds. I started my journey at HMS as an Assistant in 2015. I have since worked in almost every classroom at HMS and decided I would love to learn more about this Montessori “phenomenon.” I completed my Montessori training at West Side Montessori and enjoy leading the little minds in our Pre-Primary classroom.
What is your favorite area in the Montessori classroom?
My favorite area of a Montessori classroom is Practical Life. This is where I let my creativity shine. I love celebrating the holidays and frequently change the Practical Life shelves to mimic what’s going on the world.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling the world. Some of my favorite places are San Diego, Nashville and Portland. Exploring new cities and their cuisines, specifically vegetarian ones, are at the top of my list. Recently, I took the plunge and moved in with my boyfriend in Jersey City. We live with our chocolate lab, Minnie, who we consider our fur baby. In the summer, you’ll find me reading on the beach or taking Minnie for a long run!
